Team Honeycomb Tackles the UCI Gravel World Championship in Belgium
On Sunday, 6 October, Team Honeycomb showcased their resilience at the prestigious UCI Gravel World Championship. The event kicked off in the picturesque city of Halle and took riders through the breathtaking Forests of Brabant before concluding in the vibrant city of Leuven.
The course challenged riders with a demanding 181 km course with approximately 1,000 meters elevation gain to navigate. Although the route lacked significant climbs, it presented considerable challenges with its narrow path, and tricky terrain featuring gravel, cobblestones and unpaved roads.
Our elite team, comprised of Marc Pritzen, Casper Kruger, Jaco Van Dyk, and Tristan Nortje, took on 294 competitors in the elite men’s category.
The race proved to be a formidable test of endurance and skill. Marc Pritzen finished in 100th place with a time of 5:05:56, marking a commendable performance amidst tough competition on foreign soil. Casper Kruger followed closely, securing 137th place. Jaco Van Dyk displayed admirable tenacity, finishing in 168th place.
Although Tristan Nortje faced challenges and was unable to finish, competing in such a prestigious event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes, and even more so when the event is in an unfamiliar landscape and takes place after hours of travel.
Overall, team Honeycomb showed remarkable determination and sportsmanship and we celebrate their performance.
