Exempt Micro Enterprises

Annual Turnover: <R10 million/year

EMEs qualify for automatic Level 4 BEE status with 100% contribution recognition. Small businesses with higher black ownership can improve this to 135% recognition with a BEE affidavit.

Qualifying Small Enterprises

Annual Turnover: R10 – R50 million/year

QSEs with black ownership of less than 51% need to be BEE-compliant, and require verification. QSEs with +51% black ownership can improve their BEE status.

Generic Enterprises

Annual Turnover: >R50 million/year

Your BEE certificate is valid for a period of one year (12 months) from the date of issuance (signing by a commissioner of oaths).
