Team Honeycomb’s Tristan Nortje Breaks 12-Year Record at Karoo to Coast!
On Sunday, 22 September, Team Honeycomb’s Tristan Nortje made history by shattering a 12-year record at the prestigious Lions Karoo to Coast race. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and challenging terrain, the Karoo to Coast spans 95.95 kms from Uniondale to Knysna and features a maximum elevation of 1,815 meters, making it a true test of endurance and skill for its riders.
This year, Tristan Nortje showcased an incredible performance, doing Team Honeycomb proud. Right from the start, Nortje displayed his competitive edge by breaking away from the pack and going solo within the first 7 kms. His strategic approach and unwavering focus allowed him to maintain a blistering pace throughout the race, even as the demanding route presented numerous challenges.
As he navigated the twists and turns of the race, Nortje’s determination was palpable. He pushed through the rugged, mountainous terrain of the Western Cape, and with the finish line in sight, it became clear that he was on track to break the existing record. He crossed the finish line with a remarkable time of 3 hours and 31 seconds, finishing a staggering 2 minutes and 42 seconds faster than the previous record held by Charles Keey since 2012. In addition to this record-breaking achievement, Nortje finished nearly 7 minutes ahead of his closest competitor, Johan van Zyl, securing his position at the top of the podium.
Nortje’s record-breaking accomplishment is not just a personal triumph but a significant moment in the history of the Karoo to Coast race. Honeycomb is proud to celebrate this achievement and looks forward to more exhilarating moments in the future. Nortje’s determination and his commitment to excellence are perfectly representative of Honeycomb BEE and we are immensely proud of his performance.
